VISITOR CENTRES

Our cooperative is active in the management of several visitor centres in various areas of the Gesso Valley, which allows us to offer visitors interesting and multifaceted information. In fact, it is possible to learn more about aspects related to the life of wolves, learn about the rich biodiversity present in the Maritime Alps, discover fragments of history in the Burial ground in Valdieri, or understand how the production of electricity works in the Enel Luigi Enaudi hydroelectric power plant.

ENEL Hydroelectric Power Plant

Cooperativa Montagne del Mare

ENEL Hydroelectric Power Plant, named after the former President of the Republic Luigi Einaudi, is located in the municipality of Entracque, in the province of Cuneo and is the largest hydroelectric plant in Italy, as well as one of the most powerful in Europe.

It can be visited through guided tours lasting an hour and a half where, you will see a working model on a scale of 1:20, historical films and then travel on an electric train, inside the tunnel where the engine room of this plant is housed.

By storing energy when the water rises and releasing it when it falls, the plant works like a giant battery, helping to stabilize the grid and allowing non-programmable renewable energy, such as solar and wind, to be used more.

These elements suggest that the site was a centre of regional production and trade. The first excavations began in 1991 and the site is open to the public under our management, together with the archaeological museum of Valdieri, which preserves a vast collection of finds.
